Day 1 Activity

Page history last edited by Rachel Ashbrook 9 years, 7 months ago

Welcome to the 2012-2013 Yearbook Staff. I'm excited to get started on a new yearbook, although it does feel like I just finished the last one. The only way to get better year after year is to assess what was done well last year and continue on that positive path and also identify what was done poorly and change it. That will be our first assignment for the year.

You will go to the website captured below and examine it: www.yearbookavenue.com

The year should read: 2014

The Job Number is: 48985

Use the Login: newyear

Password: takealook14

When you login click on the PREVIEW button. As you scroll through last year's yearbook in the comment box below identify the THREE positive elements of last year's yearbook and THREE negative elements of last year's yearbook. We will discuss how we will improve this year's yearbook.

Positive:
- The picture quality is generally good, especially the action shots of the sports teams.
- It seems to encompass a fair amount of the student body ie: not one group of people dominates the pages.
- The pages in general have a sense of organization to them.

Negative:
- Inconsistencies. If a style is chosen as the template for certain pages, it shouldn't randomly change in the middle of the book.
- Stylistic elements. Certain pages have awkward angles/placements for text or pictures.
- Captions. Maybe make them humorous, so they're not so awkward?

Negative Comments:
- I like the idea of an academics page, but maybe there should be more than one page devoted to it. Id like to see the fun activities like science labs or disections incorporated in the book so i can remember that it wasnt just studying and notes all day.
-The Artoberfest should have more pages showing off more things so mayne more people will be interested in attending.
-There should also be more superlatives! That is something Im always looking for in a yearbook.

Positive Comments:
-I like how the baby pictures were right after the senior pictures, with numbers correlated with who they were.
-I like how in the school spirit section it was sectioned off by color... looked good.

Positive:
1. I felt the class/student picture pages were really well done
2. I liked the page with all the internet memes and the stuff that students most likely are aware of outside of school
3. the organization and layout of the pages were very well done

Negative:
1. the collage pages feel a bit too cluttered
2. I felt the club pages were a bit too simple and the backgrounds too bright and didn't fit
3. The interview page witht eh iphone layout I didn't like

Negatives:
-Events like Artoberfest and the Talent show were under documented in my opinion. In particular the Talent show section was short and in my opinion not concetrated along with average photography.
-Some of the page designs were not cohesive or uncannily contrasted to the page content.
-Cheesy captions.

Positive:
-I really liked the execution of the 13gb design choice. Done tastefully for the most part and incorporated the content to be eye catching succesfully.
-The photography for most of the book is clear and quality.
-All of the content was organized neatly.

what i like.
-how each class had there own page.
-i liked how the pages just flowed and didn't jump from one thing to another.
-the pictures had good quality and were taken nicely.
negatives
-the tech theme
-some pages were a little to simple
-artoberfest should have more about it.
